  Yoshida overpowered the 2001 Asia champion with takedowns and tilts for an 8-0 lead in the first period. Another takedown and exposure to start the second period capped the match

  Yoshida opened with a low sweep single on her way to a 3-0 lead at the break. Leading 7-0 with six seconds remaining, Yoshida nailed her trademark double-leg for three points and the technical fall.

  Icho had her hands full with the 2002 world champion at 59 kg. Icho gave up a pair of takedowns early in the first period, but countered Kartacheva's efforts twice to level the score at intermission. The two battled evenly until the closing moments of the match when Icho whipped Kartacheva to her back for the victory.
"I wasn't worried at the beginning when I fell behind because I'm a slow-starter, but I was really nervous the last 10 seconds,・Icho said when one reporter mentioned that it was a tight match. 的致e wrestled this opponent before and she is very good. But, it's like my body isn't awake yet.・

  Hamaguchi scored with a snap-down and go-behind and tipped Zlateva up for a near-fall on her way to a 5-0 lead in the first period. Hamaguchi ended the match with a double-leg takedown and gut wrench for the technical fall and a trip to the semifinals.
