OSAWA, OTSUKI WIN BRONZE AT JR WORLD C’SHIPS
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala (September 2) - Shigeki Osawa and Aoi Otsuki
won bronze medals on the opening day of freestyle competition at the junior
wrestling world championships.
Osawa of Yamanashi Gakuin University lost his opening round match at 60
kg to eventual champion Mehdi Taghavi Kermani of Iran, but rebounded for
a pair of wins in repechage matches. Osawa defeated Zalimkhan Kutseev of
Russia for the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Waseda University’s Otsuki fell to European junior champion
Kahaber Khubeztu of Russia in the semifinals, but came back for a win against
Euro bronze medalist Andrei Taucci of Moldova in the match for third
place.
Otsuki’s Waseda teammate Tetsuro Asami did not fare as well at 96 kg, losing
in the first round to Behname Taghipoor of Iran. Taghipoor’s loss in the
semifinals eliminated Asami from the competition. At 50 kg, Musashi Nagao
of Kinki University did not feel well and did not wrestle.
