HASEGAWA 2ND IN GRECO-ROMAN GGP FINAL

BAKU (July 18) – Defending champion Kohei Hasegawa notched three wins at 55kg but had to settle for a silver medal in greco-roman on the last day of the FILA Golden Grand Prix Final in Baku.

Hasegawa appeared headed for a repeat of last year's championship run in the Azerbaijan capital with wins over former Asia champion Lee Jung-Baek (KOR) and last year's junior world champion Orhan Ahmadov (AZE) in the quarterfinals and semifinals at 55kg.

He came up short in the championship bout, however, against European bronze medalist Peter Modos (HUN), who appears to be finding his form again after a year-long slump.

Meanwhile, Yuji Okamoto defeated former European champion and Beijing Olympian Tamas Loerincz (HUN) in repechage at 66kg, but had to settle for fifth place after a loss to Beijing bronze medalist Mikhail Semenov (BLR).

Japan's final entry in greco-roman Takehiro Kanakubo opened with a win at 74kg over former European junior bronze medalist Yauhen Bachko (BLR), but had to settle for 11th place overall after a loss 2009 Euro runner-up Jakub Tim (POL) in the quarterfinals.
