SUZUKI SNARES BRONZE IN MEN'S FREE AT JR WORLD C'SHIPS

BUDAPEST (July 24) – Yasuhiro Suzuki defeated a pair of Asian junior champions in the consolation bracket to claim a bronze medal on the first day of men's freestyle competition at the junior world wrestling championships.

Suzuki of Takushoku University, after losing his opening bout, notched three straight wins in repechage for a bronze medal at 60kg. His wins included 2-1 triumphs over this year's Asian junior winner Mehran Akbar Nasiriafranchali (IRI) and 2009 champ Sayatbek Okasov (KAZ). Suzuki lost his opening bout to Umid Mammadov (AZE), a bronze medalist in this year's Euro junior meet and the eventual silver medalist in Budapest.

Meanwhile, Nobuhiro Takeda (50kg) and Takahiro Baba (96kg) each posted wins in their opening matches, but fell in the quarterfinals a did not have a chance to wrestle in the consolation bracket. Japan's fourth entry, Ken Karamushizawa (74kg) lost in the first round and did not reach the wrestle-backs.
