TANAKA TAKES SILVER ON FINAL DAY OF JR WORLD C'SHIPS

BUDAPEST (July 25) – Kotaro Tanaka forged four wins with his low-single attack but had to settle for the silver medal at 66kg on the final day of the junior world wrestling championships in Budapest.

Tanaka of Waseda University fell to Alan Gogaev (RUS) 0-1, 0-3 in the championship final at Syma Sport and Event Center after the Russian stopped Tanaka's first low-single attempt and then spun around behind a couple more for the victory. Tanaka's silver medal was the first for the Japanese men since 2005 when Yasuhiro Inaba, currently Japan's world team representative, took the silver at 55kg.

In earlier bouts, Tanaka notched wins against last year's Asia junior No. 2 Mirbek Abdildaev (KGZ) and Euro junior bronze medal winner Anton Afanasyeu (BLR).

At 55kg, Kyohei Yago of Nihon University advanced to the quarterfinals but fell to reigning European junior champion Toghrul Asgarov (AZE). Yago was edged in repechage by 2009 African junior champion Abdelhakim Ibrahim Farag (EGY) and had to settle for seventh place.

Koki Tonomura (84kg) and Tomoyuki Oka (120kg) lost their opening bouts. Oka got a second chance in repechage, but suffered a loss by technical superiority to current European junior champion Giorgi Sakandelidze (GEO).
